Have you ever imagined exploring the heart of Italy on a bike, surrounded by diverse terrains, historical villages, and the camaraderie of like-minded women? Well, that’s exactly what 34 women from 10 nationalities experienced during a remarkable cycling event organized by NGNM in their UWAT (United We Are Tour) in the enchanting region of Umbria.
The adventure spanned approximately 450 kilometers, with a challenging elevation gain of 6000 meters over four stages. Each stage offered a unique discovery of the magic that Umbria holds, from rolling hills to long climbs, and from untouched natural wonders like Sibillini Natural Park to historically and artistically rich villages like Assisi.
The journey wasn’t solely about pedaling from point A to B. In the spirit of true exploration, the cyclists made a meaningful stop in Assisi to visit the Saint Francis Chapel, adorned with mesmerizing frescoes by Italian master painters. A perfect injection of culture amidst the physical exertion.
The typical Umbrian borgos, ancient stone villages perched on hilltops, provided captivating landmarks and, at times, great short climbs to reach them. With the support of a navigation system, everyone was encouraged to embrace autonomy while cycling, even if they temporarily lost sight of the group.
Safety was a top priority, so cyclists were organized into four main groups based on their average speed levels. This clever approach allowed for a balanced ride, avoiding overly large groups while fostering a sense of camaraderie, empowerment, and mutual care for one another.
Competition was set aside, replaced by collaboration and genuine support. The overall atmosphere was filled with light-heartedness and fun, bringing out the best in everyone.
The organization left no stone unturned, ensuring a seamless experience for all participants. From tech support to feed-stations catering to various dietary needs, including vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free options, every detail was taken care of.
As a delightful and rejuvenating addition, professional yoga instructor and cyclist Alessandra led invigorating outdoor yoga sessions after each stage, providing a perfect way to unwind and recharge.
The accommodations were no less exceptional, offering a range of experiences from staying inside historical borgos like Spello (one of Italy’s most beautiful), to relais nestled on hilltops, an old Palazzo in Norcia, and an Agriturismo in Spoleto.
But what truly makes UWAT events stand out is the close-knit and diverse community it nurtures. Age became insignificant, as women from different brackets (30-65) shared the same passion for cycling, teamwork, and personal growth. The experience was nothing short of transformative.
UWAT embodies the essence of female empowerment, where women unite to ride, share, and uplift each other. It goes beyond a mere cycling holiday; it becomes a life-changing journey of self-discovery and lasting connections.
So, if you’re looking for an adventure that blends physical challenges, cultural immersion, and soul-stirring connections, join NGNM on their tours and embark on your own unforgettable journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Italy.
It’s time to ride, grow, and transform together!
