Over the long miles of a gravel ride or race, riders will often refer to trail fairies who leave goodies on course or are there to help out for an untimely mechanical. But sometimes you need the protection of a spirit animal as well. There’s no better way to bring one along with you than having it painted on your frame. Of course somebody with the skill and precision like Black Magic makes it all the better.
Ben Corbalis, better known as @blackmagicpaint on Instagram was the main painter on this one and he wanted to share a few words about the work done on this Exploro Team frameset.
Painting the bike was really fun. We did most of the lines in tape and cut graphics with our plotter. The bike was a surprise for [the customer’s] wife and she was so excited when she saw it in person. We dont get to see a lot of our customers receive their bikes in person, it was awesome to see her joy.
We can’t wait to see what adventures this bike will encounter over the coming year. But much like the maligned sloth, I’m sure it will defy expectations and provide a ton of joy.

And just tie sloths back into gravel riding one more time. Our favorite tree-abiding mammal is actually a surprisingly good swimmer. Hopefully, that brings some good luck to our rider next time they have to take on a river crossing.
