New Exploro Pro Rival

Our new entry-level Dirty Kanza winning bike. That's right, the world's fastest gravel bike is now available with a rock-solid spec at an unbeatable price.

Posted by Gerard Vroomen - 09 April 2020

I probably don’t need to tell you too much about the Exploro frame. It’s fast on-road and off, the only gravel frame that is truly aero so you can keep up with the roadies on tarmac and leave them in the dust when a nicer trail comes along.

Or maybe you live in a place with nothing but gravel and singletrack. As victories at Dirty Kanza, Jeroboam and many other events show, the Exploro is right at home there too.

As of today, that race-winning, roadie-envy-inducing combination is available at an unbeatable price with the new Exploro Pro Rival. It comes with:

  • Ultra-reliable SRAM Rival drivetrain
  • Easton EA-50 cockpit
  • 3T carbon aero seatpost
  • WTB Serra gravel wheels, Riddler tires &  SL8 saddle

You can find all the detail specs here.

This means you now have several options to get into fast gravel riding:

  • This new Exploro Pro Rival
  • For a little more, the Exploro Pro Rival Plus which gets lighter  Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels, Schwalbe G-One Allround tires and a genuine 3T cockpit
  • A little above that, we have the Exploro Pro GRX with Shimano’s GRX gravel groupset.

Here is my review after 3 months of the purchase of this bike.
    Pros-
    -So FUN! fast, nimble, responsive
    -Design you can feel
    -Comfortable
-Really the best bike i have ever owned
-The sram group set seems to be working fine.

    Cons-
-Rear derailleur / pin pull put on a flat ( will teach you ) this was a massive headache, ended up double looping my chain ( which I had yet to experience undoing), got 100% stranded on the top of a mountain carrying my rig down. total mess.
-This ended up also slightly bending the rear derailleur so shifting problems ensued. (cheese!)
-Paint. the image and what i was expecting was flat matte color, it is sparkle like boat paint- not really my thing nor presented like that in photo, also color is quite different unexpected
-Tires! I have had probably 7/8 flats in 2-3 months???? these tires excuse me; suck! also, a little larger would be better i think
    -My brakes are screaming loud?
-Also the cabling seems to be in the way on the left side, left leg.

    Price.
Given the current market it seems average; which still does not justify so much money. (it’s out of control if you ask me, and ridiculous, but we all still love bikes right?! 🙂

Overall it’s an amazing bike! Great work!

    HI Gerard

Luckily I managed to secure the old white pearl 3T exploro Rival Team. Just wondering, what’s the biggest front chainring I can run on the front? Currently I have 44t at the front and 10-42t for the rear, and was wondering if I can have something like 50t/52t on the front for my weekly peloton ride as the 44t seems to be very close to the frame.

    Many thanks.

    Hey Gerard,

Love the bike, question regarding geometry/ fit. I test rode a 2018 Exploro Team/ green on M. Is this bike the same frame? Geometry/ ride ect? Found one, curious if it is the same. Thanks for your time. And that 2018 was a beautiful ride, nice wiork! Thanks, Bradley

    Thanks Gerard,
last question on this: do you think that when the Rival will be available again, it’ll be with the same colour, or already with a new one?

Is the Explore Rival discontinued? I can’t see it on the 3T website anymore.

hi Luca, lead times for all sorts of bike components are getting longer and longer. Now that everybody has stocked up on toilet paper for the pandemic, it seems bikes are next. Early 2021 would be the most optimistic for new Rival bikes and I would expect other models to be sold out quite soon too.

    Hi Gerard and friends
Hope everything is okay at your end -I just ordered a Strada Team Force with 45/32 wheels last month …. I have looked at that machine for a couple of years, and now seemed to be a good time to support 3t… but my german dealer doesn´ t seem to be able to get deliveries from 3t -is there some special problem/glitch shipping wise between IT and GER?
Hope you are all well, and best of luck from

P.S. If you would like me to support even more, I would be delighted to show my support locally with friends and fellow racers, and put some support-stickers on my new bike (if and when it arrives) …….the likes of “Forza Bergamo” or “Riding against xxx” springs to mind. I´ m clearly not in advertising 🙂

Hi Kresten, I’ll send you an email for some more information and we’ll sort it out for you. Should not be a problem to ship this.
