GET CREATIVE – TOUR DE FRANCE “ON” LIMITED EDITION

Strada recon machine for the "Spanish Flandrien" Juan Antonio Flecha

Juan Antonio's coolest task as a Eurosport TV star is doing the recon of the actual stages a few days before the Pros ride them. We turned his favorite color combinations into a Limited Edition Strada that will be testing the toughest stages of the 2018 Tour de France.

Posted by Marc Gasch , photos by Juan Antonio Flecha and Marc Garcia - 04 July 2018

If the previous Get Creative paint job was done on an Exploro, now it’s time to go back to the road, and do a cool example on a Strada, so let’s Juan Antonio guide us through the process:

One of my favourite moments during the 3 Grand Tours working for Eurosport is producing a Recon. They are normally filmed very early in the morning and we illustrate and describe how the race will be later on when the riders arrive to that climb, descent or hectic final. Early last month 3T came out with the idea of me joining the “Get Creative” project before Tour de France,  I contacted Marc Garcia from Magaro Paintings for the  paint and the process kicked off immediately.

Check the gallery with images of the making of the design:

Firstly Marc came to my home to discuss the design. We both agreed that it would be nice to include  some elements of my activity at Eurosport, Tour de France and my roots.

Marc was excited on featuring “LIVE” on the frame as a reference to Eurosport’s coverage; a recording red dot as a pun to bring up the Recon and the filming; an airstrip linking to a stage victory in Tour de France and Argentinian colours on the fork.

However, the colours needed more time to be decided. We went through different options but ended up combining the 2 that I like the most on the STRADA: blue and coral.

Here’s a photo gallery of the final result, let us know what you think in the comments below!:

Couple of weeks later the frame was painted and ready to hit the road in France.

    Paintjob looks very nice.
For 1* i would easily go for Rotor 1*13 and needed Rotor hubs on custombuilt wheels.
    Otherwise, i am a 2* kind of dude…

    Hi,

how do the unpainted RTP frames look? One of my ideas is to have the paint really thin on part of the frame, so that the carbon can be glimpsed through it. But that will of course only work if there is some carbon weave to glimpse, like on the THM components, and not every carbon fiber thing under the sun looks like that, many are just plain grey or black.

Hi Rasmus, the frame is unidirectional carbon, not a weave, so it definitely looks like carbon (because it is) and you can see the plies, but it’s not a weave

Thanks! I guess I just have to see the frame before I decide whether I’ll believe in my idea or not.

        Hi Gerard,

Loving my Strada but was just wondering one thing–is there any aero penalty having the brake hose in-front of the head tube versus all the integrated models we are seeing?

Hi Alex, there is a small aero penalty but we haven’t really seen an internal cable solution that we like yet.
